Procedure for handling copyright complaints.
If we receive complaints from copyright holders (such as record labels, movie studios, and software publishers) that their copyrighted material is reproduced by a network user without permission the matter will be fully investigated. This is illegal activity and against the Acceptable Use Policies and Regulations. Such complaints are treated seriously to protect the legal standing and reputation of the School.
This procedure is followed in such cases.
- We automatically disable the network connection for the infected system immediately to prevent any further breach of copyright.
- We notify the user concerned by email of the complaint and that they have been disconnected from ResNet. They can still access their email and other computing facilities in the public computer rooms around the School.
- The information will be directed to the appropriate authority for investigation and comment.
If the compliant is upheld the offender may have to pay a reconnection fee of £25 . The fee is a contribution to the costs involved in handling the complaint and acts as a deterrent for other users.
The offenders reconnection to ResNet will only take place on the written instruction of the investigative authority .
Repeated offences are not dealt with by this procedure. They are dealt with individually on a formal basis through the Headmaster or his nominated deputy.
