What is ResNet?
St Leonards School Residential Networking Service (ResNet) connects rooms in all the School's residential areas to the School network and the Internet. With a laptop purchased from St Leonards you will automatically be able to connect with ResNet, and

- Access educational resources such as the Schools library catalogue and electronic academic materials
Who runs ResNet ?
ResNet is part of the St Leonards School ICT Service. The ICT Services team consist of full time Information, Communications and Telecommunications engineers, located on campus during working hours.
How is a ResNet computer connected to ResNet ?
We use a combination of ethernet cabling and wireless connectivity to link your residence to the Internet. The connection is always on. Access is typically faster than the Internet access you may be used to at home. (Note. There is a mandatory access restriction between midnight and 6am)
Is ResNet available in my residence ?
Yes.
How much will it cost ?
The ResNet service is provided on a non-commercial basis by St Leonards as part of the Schools continuing commitment to information technology, communications and academic excellence. ResNet is only currently available to residential students who have purchased a laptop from the School.Further details can be obtained by contacting Dr Caroline Routledge, Registrar
Are there any usage limits ?
There are no usage limits. However, there are some limitations and access restrictions put in place to protect our students from inappropriate materials and web sites. St Leonards School and Sixth Form College is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all its students including on line protection and safety.
Is my computer suitable for connection to ResNet ?
With effect from 1 January 2008 only PC's purchased from St Leonards will be allowed access to ResNet. Students may bring their own laptops to school but ICT Services will not be able to provide Internet or network connectivity or support them if they have a problem.
How fast is ResNet? Is it a broadband connection?
Yes, it is a broadband connection. It is a fast, always on service.
What if I don't have a computer or don't want to connect? Will I be able to use computer facilities?
You won't be able to access the Internet in your own room but will be able to use computers located in the ICT room located on the lower floor of each residential area. During the school day students may access computers in the ICT labs and other public areas.
Who can have a ResNet connection?
At present ResNet is restricted to residential students who have purchased a laptop from the School.
If I move room / house will I still be able to use Resnet?
Yes. The laptop will be configured to work in any of the residential areas.
Should I worry about theft?
Students should take care of all their personal possessions and a ResNet laptop is no different. Don't leave your laptop unattended, or leave it visible in your room. Be careful and you will not have a problem.
Do I need insurance for my laptop?
Once you have taken possession of your ResNet laptop from ICT Services it is considered your personal property and insured accordingly. If for any reason your laptop is with ICT Services then liability rests with the School.
I have some more questions. Who can I ask?
For students yet to join our residential community any questions you may have should directed to Dr Caroline Routledge, Registrar who will pass them on to ICT Services. If you are resident and using a ResNet computer your first point of contact must be your House Staff who will assist in obtaining an answer.
I have a problem with my ResNet laptop?
If you have problem with you ResNet laptop you must take the device and report the matter to your duty House Staff. They will then contact ICT Services and the laptop will be collected. Please expect your laptop to be with ICT Services for 24 hours. On repair your laptop will be delivered back to the House Staff who will ask you to collect it from them. Please note that ResNet laptops delivered directly to ICT Services will not be accepted and students will advised to follow the above procedure.
