Dos and Don't dos
Do.
- Ensure that the is working correctly. Make a habit of carrying out an anti virus scan of you hard drive at regular intervals.
- Make sure you login in correctly. Your school username (as a general rule will be initial.surmane) will be common for all your school accounts. You will be given a password to access ResNet and the password for your school account will be of your own choosing.
- Ask for help if you need it. Explain your problem to your house staff, if they cannot help you, then your problem will be escalated to the on site IT engineering staff to investigate.
Don't.
- Expect all Internet Applications and Web Sites to work. St Leonards do not allow access to web site and Internet services which could be considered a risk to the security and protection of all account holders. In addition, P2P, file sharing, FTP, Skype and other such like services are not permitted.
- Don't use wireless access points to share your ResNet access with other users, you will be shut down and the matter reported to the appropriate authority
- Don't abuse your bandwidth. We monitor bandwidth usage and in extreme cases we will limit your downloading. Please be considerate and fair to other ResNet users, and don't over download!
- Try not to leave your computer on when you're not in. If you leave your computer on and networked, you leave it open to attack over the network and over the Internet by other users, hackers, Viruses and so on, and you're also wasting electricity.
- Use of the network for any illegal activity,including violation of Copyright, will result in disciplinary action.This also includes hacking, spamming, fraud, and spreading viruses.
